Looking to enhance your practice and obtain your LICSW?
I am passionate about providing clinical and reflective supervision to those who are on the path towards licensure.
Seeking experience consultation on child welfare practice and complex casework? I have over 20 years of experience in child welfare practice, policy development, and consultation. I can offer my expertise to support you.
My Work
I have been in the field of social work for over 25 years, I have worked and volunteered in many person serving arenas including: child welfare investigations and adoptions, jails and prisons, hospitals and hospice, and briefly in the school system. I see passionate folks come in with a hope to make the world a better place, only to burnout a year or two later. This field, specifically in Child Welfare, where I have spent the last 20 years of my career; is depleting and without focused, reflective supervision around clinical issues, folks end up feeling less inspired and leave.
I believe with a safe space to reflect on issues that come up in practice, one can build upon skills and create a foundation of sustainability in social work practice. My first question is, “how are you caring for yourself?”, this question is not about bubble baths and long walks, but about how you are metabolizing the trauma of the work you see on a daily basis. How can we work together to build that into your practice so that you able to stay in social work?
This feeds into how we show up in our clinical work, impacting the folks we serve and the people we serve alongside. It’s important to develop a presence that upholds NASW ethics as well as grounding ourselves in our own practice.
Lastly, I want to specifically support folks who traditionally do not get to see themselves in traditional supervision settings. We serve diverse populations and it’s important that those we serve also see themselves.
Sara Miller
I came to social work over 26 years ago when I was volunteering at the Northwest AIDS Foundation (now Lifelong AIDS Alliance). En route to obtaining entrance into grad school, I served in Americorps as a Reading Corps volunteer and later as a Crime Victims Advocate with the Seattle Police Department through JustServe. I graduated from the University of Washington School of Social Worker in the Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program (CWTAP) and started my professional social work career at the state as a Child Protective Services investigator. I never thought I would stay in Child Welfare as long as I have, but I learned that my identity as a transracial adoptee connected to this work of children being separated from families and community in a deeper way.
I worked for the state for 6 years before moving private agency social work, specifically focusing on older youth working towards permanency, both legal and relational. During the next six years I would have the opportunity to build on my skills and become a trainer and interim supervisor. For the last 8 years, I have worked solely at the mezzo and macro levels in supporting policy development, training curriculum development and facilitation as well as providing clinical consultation specific to high risk incidents that occur with youth and families.
I obtained my clinical licensure in 2014 and remain committed to supporting those who are seeking clinical supervision towards licensure and beyond through continuous education and training.
In my free time, I love to travel with my family, read books, spend time outside and volunteer as a Girl Scout leader.
